Hi,

What 's the fastest way to copy files (20 Gb) from a PC to the VU+?

I would like to use a wired connection but not a E-sata one. ( My laptop doesn't have a E-Sata
port)

Is there another way? ( I don't see a USB 2 port, only USB host ports )
Can I use a USB host to host cable?

Thanks for help.

Daniel

ftp is quite slow on the duo I find. Fast speed I've managed is about 5mb/s.

What about using an external usb hdd. Copy the files from laptop to the hdd, and then plug in the hdd, mount it, and use telnet to transfer the files to the internal hdd???

I get 10 mb/s and a little over using ftp.

Hmmm, not fair... lol.

I get around that speed on all other internal transfers, but just not to the vu duo...

Fortunately, don't really need to do much transferring of files, so not too much of a problem...

All, I have a pc downloading webTV programs (upto 2-3gb on some days) and when they are completed a batch file just copies the files to the HDD on my VU. I dont know the speeds but they are both wired ethernet and it takes so little time that I dont even notice or need an alternative.

BTW - Im nearly 100% certain that the VU has 3 x USB 2.0 ports not usb.

Either way all the copying to external drives and switching to the VU and all that will take just as long anyway.

How long was the ftp taking for 20gb ?

I assume they are both wired ethernet...

I just use the Windows file explorer to copy the files across to the VU+ Duo HDD and I get approx 11MBps speeds each time every time...

Use Teracopy to copy the files as this utility takes over the Windows clipboard to transfer the files and you can pause, cancel etc your file copying...Useful when copying large files across and have to stop mid-way.

Using FileZilla it's telling me I'm between 9.5 and 12 (also gbit router and cat6)

Actual time to transfer a 4.68 GB dvd iso has just taken 8 mins 12 secs (with son also gaming on xbox live if that makes any difference)

Hi Ojustaboo,

Thanks.

I will try it with Filezilla.
I have tried with Total Commander to copy a 1GB file but I have lost a few times my connection (it was a wireless one from my router, now I will try with a wired one)

That the max speed you will get considering the VU+ Duo supports max 100mps connection.
