I consider placing a VU+ Duo in my bedroom (or a Solo).
When I do not wach TV i defenitely do not want to hear any noise. The Duo will not be equipped with an internal harddisk.
Does the fan only work when the device gets hot, or does it work allways?
Does the fan stop in standby?

You can have the option to turn the fan off in standby, you must be a light sleeper though i can't hear my fan or HDD unless i crouch down next to it.

As said, you can use the plugin to turn the fan on or off in standby. I think that it had been set to default as off in standby now. When/if you're using an image based on the new 5.0 firmware, the code has been implemented directly for turning the fan on/off in standby. Would be good if it could tell what temp it was and put the fan on if above a certain temp...

Also, if you had a solo, this does not have a fan at all...

BTW, I can hear the fan easily if nothing else is turned on in the room whilst it's running...

If you use DE image the fan turns off automatic in standby

All current images can turn the fan off in standby on the VU+ Duo or the Solo is totally silent ;)

I presume it's unwise to disconnect the fan on the Duo. When installing a hard disk I noticed that it's used for cooling the power area and not the actual processor as was in my DM800.
Anyone unplug their fan?
