external harddisk to use it for meoboot

hi everybody

i have one question
in fact i use now blackhole image just for meoboot
I recently bought an external harddisk to use it for meoboot ... western digital elements se with a single usb connection ...HDD 500 GB , 2.5 INCH , 5400 RPM , 480 MBITS .. usb 3.0/2.0
the hdd does not have power cable .. so the hdd take his electrical power from my (vu+duo) box

Is this long term will damage the vuduo box ?

because I noticed after I used the external Harddisk that the vuduo voice is becoming more higher than it was previously

please I am waiting for your advice to me and what is the best external harddisk to use it for the meoboot ?

I tried using a different USB before but it does not work correctly as external hdd
and sometimes When I want to install second image on usb flash with Meoboot, everything seem good and install correctly but when I restart VU, in the boot menu of Meoboot I just see Flash without second image. Even I can see second image in Meoboot plugin menu

so my question .... is it safe to use external hdd without AC power cable connection

Any ideas?
