Al Jazeera English has unveiled their presence on both Google TV and Google Chrome.

Al Jazeera’s updated Google TV application allows users to read the latest news headlines, and watch the latest Al Jazeera programmes in HD quality on their connected TV set. Rotating at the bottom of the screen are updates from the Al Jazeera twitter feed, providing convergence between catch-up services and real-time events.

Future updates to the app will include a live stream of Al Jazeera’s coverage and additional social features.

The new app is based on the latest HTML5 technologies. The graphics and image rich experience provides desktop notifications and allows for offline content access. Users can also catch up with Al Jazeera documentaries and programmes in HD, as well as watch the channel’s livestream.

The app can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store.

In a statement, Moeed Ahmad, head of new media for Al Jazeera said: “We’re proud to bring these new apps to market, yet another way for users to consume our content. We’re putting a lot into having Al Jazeera across as many new technologies and platforms as possible.”

Al Jazeera English’s head of online, Mohamed Nanabhay, added: “We are constantly looking for new ways to deliver our content and interact with our audiences. Our online philosophy has always been to make our world-class content available to audiences on the platforms they choose. We’re excited by the latest Google TV and Chrome applications as they bring us closer to audiences who may not have access to our broadcast signal.”
