Hello!:) I hope I will find some help here, with the network configuration of my Vu receiver. I use the Dream Elite Black Hole Image, and I can't manage to setup the box, to be able to share the internal HDD of VU on my PC via local network. I'd like to move out the recorded files to elsewhere. I have a router which splits the internet signal to my PC and to the VU receiver, and I don't know what settings should I made on the PC/Receiver/or which program I should install to the computer. I have read something on the forums, but unfortunately, everybody seems to talk from an advanced level, and I really don't understand anything:confused:. Also I don't know how to work with the Linux operating system. Can you folks describe step by step the procedures? Eventually, if you can post some pics about the necessary settings which need to be made, would be a great help. I'm a newbie in these matters and I would very much appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.
P.S. When I run the Network Test from the receiver's menu, IP Address and Nameserver are unconfirmed.

First off, does your router work as a dhcp server? Go to the network settings, and find out what the ip address of the vu duo is.

Then, open a dos command prompt (Start -> Run -> Type cmd -> Press Enter). Then, type "ping 192.168.0.3" (where 192.168.0.3 is the ip address of the vu duo which you received by checking the network settings).

You should get something along the lines of:

Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.3:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

If all this works fine, then you know the ip address of the vu duo fine. Now, you can use ftp to send/receive files from the vu duo.

If you only want to get the recordings, then you should be able to get to it by going to "My Documents" on the computer, and looking in the list, there should be a computer with the name bm750. If not, you could try typing "\\ip address of your vu duo" (e.g. \\192.168.0.3) in the address bar, or just typing "\\bm750".

Thank you very much for your answer! I've checked my receiver's IP address, and done the steps as you wrote (Start -> Run -> Type cmd -> Press Enter). My result is a bit changed (I used here the same, above mentioned, IP address "192.168.0.3" for safety reasons; of course mine is different). Then I searched in "My Documents" but I haven't seen any bm750. What should I do further? Thanks for the help.

Download and install Filezilla
http://filezilla-project.org/

Once installed, run the program. To connect to your Duo enter the following details in the top quick connect bar: -

Host: your Duo IP on your network
Username: root
Password: leave blank
Port: 21

Then click on quickconnect.

Good news to you friend, i found that Samba (Windows file sharing for linux) is installed and automatically started by defauls on the DE Image .. so if you browse the "Network" in your Windows Explorer after your Vu is running on the network, you'll find a new PC with shares on it .. and you can copy the files direct to your PC from Explorer....
cheers,
