I followed this guide...
How to install your own picons on VTI or Dream Elite images

As the title, how to install your own picons on VTI image.

If using picons on USB stick, create a folder in the root of the USB stick called picon

Then telnet into the VU+ Duo: -

Code:

ln -s /media/sdb1/picon /usr/share/enigma2
I put the USB stick in the back of the VU Duo...(All picons are in a file called "picon")

When I look on Dreambox Control Centre under /media/sdb1/picon /
I can see the all the picons....But they're not showing in my info bar ?
I'm using Astra Eurobird 28_2_-the shining metal picons.
I'm using LT6 skin, but it wont work on Yads either.

If I take the USB stick out of the VU Duo (the one with all the picons on ) and put it back in I get the message
"No displayable files on this medium found !"

Any ideas ?

Thanks again.

I have tried 4 types of USB stick without success.

When I try a new type of Usb stick i always get the message

"No displayable files on this medium found !"

Does this mean it's not reading what's on the USB stick ?

I have just tried this option.

"Create a directory in the root of your HDD or USB stick called picon, then simply ftp all your picons to that directory"

Gues what..........Still no picons showing.

It's got me beat !

is the stick formatted ext2 or ext3, i don't think that fat or fat32 will work as the file names are long.

type: mount , in a telnet session to see something like this

/dev/sda1 on /media/hdd type ext3 (rw,data=ordered)

if it is not formatted ext2/3, try formatting it ext2/3 as follows (in a telnet session):

umount /dev/sdb1
mkfs.ext2 -I 128 -b 4096 /dev/sdb1
mount /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1

Looks like the usb hasn't been mounted. Could probably do with formatting the stick, creating a /media/usb (if it doesn't exist, as vti image doesn't have one existing for this), then editing the /etc/fstabs file to automount it everytime you boot the box...

Done it again....Here goes.

/dev/sda1 on /media/sdb1 type vfat

Does that help ?

Followed this guide.
If it is not formatted ext2/3, try formatting it ext2/3 as follows (in a telnet session):

umount /dev/sdb1
mkfs.ext2 -I 128 -b 4096 /dev/sdb1
mount /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1

It came back with this...
/dev/sdb1 on /media/sdb1 type ext2 (rw,sync)
In there I have a folder called lost+found and a picon folder with the picons in it
In there is Astra Eurobird 28,2°-the shining metal picons.

Just rebooted and still not displaying picons on my info bar.

Have you tried this?!?!

The picons should be in a directory which is /media/usb/picon. Since yours is in /media/sdb1/picon, it isn't picking it up.............

Like asking you to go to barclays bank to check your online banking, yet you're trying to log in to lloyds to check your online banking. Unless you have things done correctly (i.e., go to the right site - in the picons case, create the right directory), they ain't gonna work...............

Third time lucky ;)

Just to help (type it in a telnet window to the vu duo):

mkdir /media/usb

Then, edit the /etc/fstab file, to give something similar to:

/dev/sdb1 /media/usb auto defaults 0 0

Where /dev/sdb1 = the correct path to the mount you're creating...

So just create a file in Media called USB with the picon file in it ?

Thank you.

No, you need to create the /media/usb as directed above. Then, mount it using the edit of fstab...

lammy1961

Created mkdir /media/usb with telnet
Then, edit the /etc/fstab file
It was /dev/sdb1 /media/usb auto defaults 0 0
Transfered the picon file into /media/usb
It's still not showing.

What can be the problem ?

Just went back into the /media/usb file
and the picon folder has gone ?
It' been replaced with lost+found....Strange

pooface

Yes, because you'd probably uploaded the picon folder to the flash (as the device hadn't been mounted...). Now, if you upload (since it has the lost+found), you should be able to upload to the dir, and gave them available :)

The picon folder is in /media/usb/picon
With all the picons in there, but, still not showing in info bar.
Should I remove lost+found

Breakthrough....
I just sent 5 other picons Supersport 1 - 5 into the picon folder and they work....How come ?
It must be the picons pack I'm using for 28.2 East "Astra Eurobird 28,2°-the shining metal picons"
Can someone reccommend a 28.2 picon pack ?

Thanks for all your help pooface.

There are some on this forum on the picon site, work a treat, though depending on your bouquet, some might need renaming to go with the right channels.
If you are using either DE or PLI, why not use the picons in the download folder?

although you have a greater knowledge than myself on the subject, on my VTI image i have my USB stick mount/intialized on /media/sdb1 and picons are listed and working.
