DM7020 HD features new Enigma2 licence
DM7020 HD available 21.10.2011

Anonymous reporting of pirate copies via website

Dream Multimedia is expanding its product portfolio in the shape of the new DM7020 HD, available in the trade as of 21 October. With the DM7020 HD, Dream will be introducing a new licence for the use of the Einigma2 operating system, developed by Dream. At the same time, the company will be reinforcing its activities to combat illegal Dreambox pirate copies.

The DM7020 HD features a white OLED display on the front panel, as well as a flexible tuner concept. The new Dreambox provides two slots for plug’n’play tuners. As standard, the DM7020 HD will be supplied with an HDTV enabled DVB-S2 tuner as well as with the hybrid tuner, developed by Dream, for digital cable (DVB-C) and antenna reception (DVB-T).

Users can install a commercially available 3.5 inch hard disk drive or they can connect an external storage device to one of the three USB 2.0 interfaces provided, converting the Dreambox into a fully functional hard disk drive recorder (PVR).

As a result of this feature, the DM7020 HD can be used as a home server, distributing videos, music or pictures to any device anywhere in the home. To this end, the Dreambox features a 10/100 Mbit Ethernet interface. A WLAN stick is supplied to enable wireless connections in the home network. „No matter whether you are using television or the Internet as a source, the hybrid media world becomes reality with the DM7020 HD“, says Dream spokesperson Alpaslan Karasu.

The new licence for the utilization of Enigma2 comes into effect with the launch of the DM7020 HD. As before, private use will continue to be possible without any restrictions, this is specifically what Dream Multimedia is trying to achieve. As the owner of the rights in Enigma2, Dream will be significantly curtailing the use of the system by competitors in the market with immediate effect.

In addition, illegal copies of Dreamboxes can now be reported anonymously. Anybody who comes across Dreambox clones in shops or online shops can submit relevant information to Dream at
www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/en/report-illegal-dreambox. „We want to ensure traders do not defraud consumers by offering low-quality pirate copies of Dreamboxes“, explains Karasu.

i have no doubt it will sell and it will sell very well for it being a dreambox. but the price is a total non starter for me. i have bought my fair share of original DM's in the past but their prices are crazy.

it will sell well, especially in Germany. DMM also released new version of E2 with some nice improvemente:

enigma2 (20101216 rel31 -> 20110929 rel32)
------------------------------------------
added basic support for remote TS services in bouquets (rdp, udp, http, iptv)

This is very useful for IPTV users.

Well the new VU+, Xtrend and Technomate models about to hit the market, I doubt that this will be a huge success in the UK. Too damn expensive.

Only with those who have money to burn, The DUO is a great bit of kit for the price as is the ET9K.
