Your first issue is which image, there are multitude of images have a browse of the forum and pick one you like than can do the rest of configuration.

If you want it to connect it to a laptop it will need to be connected to your network, for that the DM can be connected either by wifi or hardwired. The sponsor sells a tenda wifi module as well as homeplugs tht will enable you to do that

Once done, you should be able to see the DMin your network onthe laptop or tbrough your browser by entering the ip addy of the dm

A file transfer proggy like cute ftp or flash ftp, this allows you to connect to the box, as you will need to work in the box for bouqeuts, services,connection line, etc,,,etc,,,
You will however need to be connected to the internet, so you will have to connect to your router, with a rj45 straight ethernet cable, to get your self an ip address for your box,
You will have to download an image that is compatable with your box, i do believe they are on this site in the downloads for the dreambox box... just for starters m8 !!!

sorry, just to add, you can use dreamup to install your image straight to the box from your lappy, if you are not to familiar with the fts programs....

if it's a DM500's ie a satellite receiver then it must be connected to a satellite dish in order to receive it's channels, if it's a DM500'C then it's a cable receiver and must be connected to a cable tv feed.

if you want to connect to your box with dream up, then you will need an RS232 data cable, as you do not need an ip addess to install the image, so you do not need an ethernet [ RJ54 ] cable

yeah now i get you. no you dont need the box to be connected to the dish while flashing but you will need a RS232 null modem cable to flash the box as using the lan network port with dreamup can be very buggy and cause more problems for you if the flash does not complete.

you need to allocate a com port to it

look in device manager and look at comport then set that com port to dreamup

looks like you dont have com drivers installed

you either need a direct com port or comm to usb and drivers need to be installed for dreamup to recognise and continue install

dream up can be a pest trying to get it to work, you need an rs 232, not a usb to rs232, as this is very very hard to get woking, a laptop with the rs232 output is ideal, then disable firewall, disable your anti virus, come off the internet, and go laptop to box only, if you use a laptop with the rs232 output dream up will come up with the com port for you, and this is usualy com 3, but it could also be com port 1, i would also recommend dream up version 1.3.2.1 as ive had it working a few time now....

do you have a laptop with a rs323 output, as this will help a lot m8, usb to rs232 using dream up is very very had to catch, i have used a rs323 cable only with dream up a few times, and it is very easy to catch dream up this way ?? compared with using usb to rs323 cable,

I have never had dream up working with a usb to rs232 cable, so i bought an older laptop with a rs output, and dream up has worked every time m8, mostly with com port 3, or com port 1...

You could try DCC software m8

i got a usb to rs232 and so has basset we both have it working ok

you just need to make sure drivers are installed and its plugged in during installation of dreamup

then there may be something esle stopping it, ive had that a lot, and usually there is something else on the computer stopping it from connecting to your box, disable firewall & anti virus and try again

you must have an image on your comuter m8,[ if youve not got one you will need one on your computer ] so as you load it on to DCC and upload it to your box....??

You've posted this on the DM500 and its difficult to flash. it can be done but you need to follow these instructions to the letter, if you are unsure use one of the cable methods.


Telnet Commands

To flash an image using Telnet

This method will only work with a .img image file.

Rename the image file to backup.img
FTP the image file to the /tmp folder on the dreambox
Telnet to your box and paste the following command:



cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot




To telnet, click START > RUN and type Telnet ip.address.of.dreambox
A command window will appear, enter username root and password dreambox.

To backup an image using Telnet


Telnet to the box and paste the following command:



cat /dev/mtd/3 > /tmp/backup.img




FTP to the box and navigate to the /tmp
Here you will find the backup.img file.

as per the post you copied the backup image

so the image you want to transferr, needs to be renamed to "backup.img" THEN TRANSFERR IT TO TEMP

you ftp your service/ bouquet file into..... var/tuxbox/config/enigma, then you can use dreamboxedit to re-adjust them to your own settings... not sure what folder you would put the picons in, has i never had them in my last enigma1 box m8 !!... but it could be var/picons... but like i said... im not sure m8

my box only gets freeview i wanna get asian channels guys. n all uk freeview channels works on astra only i get hotbird but nothing comeup on it guys need help i wanna add jade3 can u help me out plzz

freeveiw is fine

for asian you need to supscribe to viewasia, and zee packages

but yoiu have to be an exsisiting sky sub to get it or atleast have a FTV card for them to send signal to

once thats done plug in card to dmm and away you go

first you should make your own thread for this problem rather than adding it to a existing one otherwise it may get over looked and you may not get the help you need.

also we need you to provide as much information as possible about the receiver and image you were using, and exactly what you did that led up to you seeing this error.

the more details you can provide the better the chance you will have at getting a solution.

as i said create your own thread rather than attaching your's to this one. and how did you come to see this error ? also bear in mind that if you just bought this receiver is is very likely it is a cloned unit as Dream Multimedia ceased production of the DM500s around 6 to 7 years ago.

YESTERDAY I INSTALL CCCAM 2.2 after that this problem start, this message show in start up. and after that i cant do any thing box stuck in startup
