to look at the free space in memory that you have on your box it nice and simple
Don't be mislead by that: free memory in Linux is quite different from free memory in Windows.
Linux has an intelligent memory-management system: it will use (almost) all the memory that is available, as RAM is fast. (Almost) no free memory in Windows means the end of the world; in Linux this is normal.

to check what is running on your receiver, via telnet type in


ps

handy to check of things like cams or scripts are actually running in you are having problems

To have a collection of commands available via the GUI of your box you could install my systemtools. Accessible via Blue--> PPanels --> Systemtools

To find the kernal version of yr LINUX Machine

Telnet into box and type


uname -r
Better one is cat /proc/version
Also to find mounted device
type mount
To find all available commands hit the tab key twice :)
