Cloud gaming service OnLive has said that it is ready to "come out guns blazing" for its UK launch this Thursday after learning the lessons from a year in operation in the US.

OnLive, which makes its long-awaited UK debut at the Eurogamer Expo on September 22, allows games to be streamed instantly on a variety of devices including IP-enabled TVs, PCs, Macs and iPad.

In an interview with CVG, OnLive's vice president of games and media John Spinale said that the cloud gaming service has deliberately taken a "soft launch" approach so far.

"We haven't really talked about OnLive much in the UK yet so I don't think we deserve any credit, but soon hopefully we'll get some good reactions," he said.

"We started off in the US with a soft launch. We did some PR and said, 'Hey, this is neat and revolutionary technology', but we didn't really market or push it hard because we were still developing what it was."

OnLive, which is said to be in talks with console brands Microsoft and Sony, launched in the US last June and has since worked its way through a number of issues and problems.

Spinale said that the service struggled with its fundamental technology and features at first, but the lessons learned have made it much stronger for the UK launch.

"We limped out with the fundamental architecture... but we didn't have a fully robust feature set that gets everybody excited," he said.

"Now we have a really robust platform so we have the ability to come out guns blazing in the UK and show everybody the opportunity is huge."

Spinale added: "We've put [everything] together over the course of the last year and there's a library of games and a really cool feature set that other platforms can't do, such as the fact that you're playing super high-end games on a tablet for example."

BT, which owns a small stake in OnLive, has already agreed a deal to bundle the cloud gaming service with its broadband packages

Consumers can also sign up directly to access OnLive's library of "over 100 top-tier games", regardless of their internet service provider.
