Trying to access the telnet interface so that I can copy the contents of a usb drive to the internal HD.

Anyone know the login?

in telnet, to change the units password, you need to login ( ip addy ) login as root
then type this passwd
you will be prompted to type your new password, do so, but no text will be seen, once done, hit return
and repeat, a confirmation notice will appear

mmmm never changed the password but it wont let me login with a blank one.

So i cannot login as root. - strange

From when I last flashed with the image and had to telnet / FTP in it was just a matter of entering root at the login and that was it. You haven't installed some back up image have you - there are some floating around the web purporting to be VIX originals.

what u need to look at is are you actually telnet'ing in or ssh'ing in

if telnet then blank will be fine

if ssh then it wont let you log in with a blank password

Aha! found the problem! I didn't realise that as soon as you ftp onto the box it takes whatever you put in as the FTP password as the new password for everything.
