Ubuntu would not be my choice for linux desktop..

Centos or Fedora are excellent..

Why? I did a search for best Linux for desktop and funnily enough Ubunta came out top, primarily because of the HW support.

Yes but its three times the size from Ubunts websize, that 11.04 was 700MB this i 3GB. I need to put it on a USB stick and have to wait for that to be delivered. Will do it over the weekend.

iv'e been using ubuntu as my second OS and as multi boot for several years and it does every thing well almost every thing i need.

the single reason i wont go to linux whole heartedly is the total lack of native linux based tools for linux based receivers. i point blank refuse to install wine just so i can run a few windows based programmes to manage my receivers.

considering these linux based receivers have been around for well over ten years i am totally astounded no one has come up with a line of linux software to do the jobs i need.

Lol stan. By all means don't let my post put you off, ubuntu is a cracking OS but sadly the lack of support for my stb's means it will not be my primary OS.
