well if you using VIX then just go to

setup system recording location

go down to timeshift press menu

navigate to folder you want but dont click ok

so on the top screen it should show

/media/usb/timeshift

[make a folder timeshift]

then just press green [ok] to save

then activate timeshift

:D

if i try to initialize the hdd will it wipe the other internal 2tb hdd
do i have to use the front of rear usb ,im trying it in the front usb
the hdd is in ntfs format
i thought it will format itself to the appropriate format when i connect it to duo box ,am i wrong here ?

Its called recording paths.

If you initialise the HDD you will lose the data that is on it so make sure you pick the right one from the list.

Can you press blue button, than VIX, than mount manager and see what the new hdd is mounted as, id its sdc, than change it to hdd2, you will have to restart the box and go back into recording paths.

In vix/device manager I have
Device/dev/sda1 mount/media/hdd
2usb stick dev/sdb1 mount/media/usb
3)usb hdd dev/sdc1 mount/media/usb 2
They are showing like this

When I go into recording paths time shift location shows media/hdd
So is the default movie location as media/hdd whic tames the recording on the 2tb internal hdd
The time shift is set to on it does do the time shift but not on the usb hdd
what am I doing wrong

How do you make a folder time shift
Using Windows explorer is a very convenient way to create a directory.

Well, first tell us if you meticulously followed the above steps to set the correct path? As that works for everybody, it looks like you didn't.

I'm very sorry: I never noticed anyone not being able to set the path for timeshift (albeit it is a bit user-unfriendly).

still cant access this folder from the remote of vu+duo by going in to setting and recording paths
it onlys shows there media/hdd You are sure you used the Channel up or down button? Doing that you jump to the folders, once there you navigate to the desired location and push "OK". Now it is added to the bookmarks and can be chosen.

First of all, I would suggest to update to ViX 2.2
Not related to your problem, but no use to stay on an old image (as we even have forgotten it's specifics).
Secondly: please post your pics here, instead of using an external upload: that makes it much more convenient for us to see what you are talking about.
Thirdly, as has been advised before: using the channel up/down in the "recording path" brings you to a kind of explorer, in which you can navigate to all mounted devices. Once the desired location has been selected, you can add it as a bookmark by pushing the blue button. Now you can chose the recording path from the existing bookmarks.
I'm still/again pretty sure that if you follow these steps you will succeed.

Ok mate, I had your very same issue.
And this is due to the fact that timeshift settings are not handled like recording settings.
( in recording settings to choose the recording path you'll use the right and left arrows this is not the way it works for timeshift):
1 - once in Timeshift settings move to Timeshift loacation and press OK
this way it will show you a sort of browser
2 - in the file browser move to <List of Storage devices> and from ther you can navigate to the desired location. (using menu button pops up a useful menu)

I think that some OSD infos would help!

That has to be the most unintuitive UI ever to use page up/down to change folder! At least the answer was here on the forum :D
