satellites.xml " merge xml trick "

ok i came about this by a question i answered on this forum a while ago. i have searched the net and never come across any form of tutorial or any one who could tell me how to do it so i am making this post to help the many many people who would like to know how to do this so called " MERGE XML TRICK ".

iv'e been asked this time and time again how to do the so called merge xml trick so that two very close satellites can be received from the same lnb / location with no hardware modifications etc. after a good hunt around the net with absolutely no help what so ever i decided to do it my self.

so here we go.

included are two files, one is the original i downloaded from
http://satellites-xml.eu/ which includes the Tp data for both 10.0 and 9.0 east as two separate locations. i have also included my modified satellites.xml file which combines both locations into one so that you can compare both and see exactly what i did to make it work.


NB. i used notepad+++ to open and modify these .xlm files but you can just use windows notepad if you like, although i find notepad+++ the better option and it's free as well.

btw do you know if 28.2 and 26 can be merged or are they too far apart

also i think notepad ++ is better as windows notepad doesnt have the unix line ending and hence can cause a failed write to xml

there a bit too far apart i would imagine mate. this is really only good for 1 degree maybe 1.5 separation between birds at a push.

ok silver mate just had a look and confirmed with someone else that he can get both 9.0 east and 7.0 east from the same location but not 10.0 east. so i recon if your lnb is a touch on the west side of 28.2 east you may just be able to pull both 28.2 and 26.0 in from the same location with a modified xml.

worth a look if you have the time etc.

post your satellites.xml here stan and i'll combine 28.2 and 26 so you can try it.

rite here you go mate. combined both 28.2 and 26.0 east. just load it to your receiver ( backing up the original ) and do a rescan and see what if any thing happens.

if your dish is fixed to 28.2 east you may be lucky you may not, if its motorized you might be able to nudge it between both birds just enough to get both.

yeah ive done loads of blindscans on 28.2 east with the uno and it never gets any thing it should not. as i said i think it's a bit too far out but it might be worth trying to nudge the dish between the two and run a scan.

im gonna do that i got 2 minidishes up and 1 with octo lnb one with quad lnb so i can afford to nudge one
