I hope you're all going to spend a lot of money there: Cyprus needs that very badly.

The contents of the Amsterdam-VU+ day was:

- Ultimo
Shown a prototype of Ultimo.
Not a production level yet, but it will be released by November at the latest.

- iPad, iPhone app
VU+ will release an iPad and iPhone app for streaming from Vu+ box.
The app will be registered in AppStore within two weeks.

- New User Experience
This topic is not confined to E2 world.
VU+ ported XBMC onto their new platform.
It is experimental but it was considered a good possibility of being next generation of UI.
It is OpenGL ES based and all 3D.
Above all, it also supports plugin system with Python language.

sounds like promising times ahead for vu+! xbmc would be an excellent gui if it can handle it processor wise. did they happen to mention an android version as well as an ipad version of their app?

Bold move. I like XBMC because i am already using it with AppleTV BUT we need to see TV part of the XBMC. Alot of coding will be needed that XBMC will be on pair with E2 when talking about watching TV.

Lmao i know the price really does throw u off, i think 300 for an et9k was birder line suicide in ma mrs eyes lol dnt even wana attempt half a grand or more for a receiever lol id rather get a sundtek sky stick n make a 3 tuner that way lol an the display on the et9k is sleek too so no complaints :p

Very nice but personally dont like the VFD, would have been nice if it was OLED or something similar

Rob van der Does
14-09-11, 18:46
tbh: I never ever use the VFD. Would that change when the VFD is nicer/bigger?

punisher
14-09-11, 18:57
Well as stanman said i would also hav prefered oled to vfd, or even a tft for picons :p

The VU streaming iPad/iPhone APP PDF looks near identicle the the "Dreambox Live" streaming iPad/iPhone APP that I have been using with my VU+Duo.
It works perfectly, and is quite stunning picture wise.
It is perfect for watching something when the main TV is tied up.
It doesn't support HD channels yet. But to be honest, SD channels look so good it isn't a problem.

Saying that, I will be checking out the VU version when it's released!

Nice quality pictures...

I don,t mind that it has not oled, because on the dm7020 it was useless and hard to see what's on the display.
I think with vfd at least it will be more bright and with better contrast.

Interesting that Vu is using those Wifi antenna's on the Ultimo..

Only thing I hope that ultimo also will come in silver metal design....(to match to Onky audio equipment)

I'm confused. If the Ultimo is being released by November and XBMC will not be ready until some time in 2012 what software will the Ultimo use in the interim period.

And does XBMC mean we are going to lose all the great features of Enigma 2? And image support from VIX?

first of all XMBC is a third party program and im guessing and only guessing that VU have asked the XMBC team to dreate a plugin a bit like project valarie

as for VIX well lets wait and let the receiver release before we start making ussumptions

So the the Ultimo will have E2 as the operating system, and, the plug-in interfaces XMBC with E2.

Rob van der Does

As far as I understand it (which is not very far) XMBC is just a GUI, not a replacement for E2.
