Sony's Tablet S and P will run PlayStation One games. That's the word straight from Berlin, where the electronics giant has just finished its IFA press conference.

Both tablets, previously known as the S1 and S2, are PlayStation Certified, meaning you can enjoy PlayStation One titles on the move, maybe while pretending to do some work. (Though those explosion sounds will probably give you away, especially if you're making them yourself.)

The Tablet S, formerly the S1, is mainly for entertainment, with a 9.4-inch touchscreen and Nvidia Tegra 2 processor making sure things run smoothly on the bigger screen. It'll be available from September for €479 (£424), with a 3G and Wi-Fi model due in November.

The Tablet P, meanwhile, has the same folding design Sony showed off when it previewed both back in April, with two 5.5-inch touchscreens that snap shut so it'll fit in your pocket like an old-school cigarette case. It's coming to the UK in November, for €599 (£530), so you'd better get making that Christmas wish list.

Both tablets will also let you connect to your TV, so you can stream pictures, music and videos from your tablet straight on your DLNA-enabled telly. Kazuo Hirai, Sony's executive deputy president, said they would also be compatible with the Sony Entertainment Network -- the umbrella name for Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited, what used to be known as Qriocity -- as well as the Reader Store, hitting the UK in October, for all your digital literary needs.

Both tabs come with Android 3.1 on the Wi-Fi models (upgradeable to 3.2), or full-fat 3.2 on the Wi-Fi and 3G ones.

So, true contenders or iPad wannabes?
