The BBC has today launched a new version of BBC iPlayer on Sony's PlayStation 3 console with a simplified design that "evolves beyond catch-up into a complete connected TV experience".

The new iteration of the hugely popular iPlayer platform has been "specifically designed" for the living room, allowing users to "flip" between the channels and content for a more 'TV-like' experience.

The platform has improved search functions, while users can personalise it to always store and remember their favourite shows, including some content from the BBC archive.

Possibly most interesting is that the system has a recommendation engine that logs each users' preferred content and makes recommendations to help them find something new. It launches today to the around six million UK owners of Sony's PS3, replacing the previously available service on the console's launchpad.
