[VU+ Solo2] Switching from VIX 3.0 to OpenVIX Apollo

Hi. I've been getting lots of errors with my crossEPG and my bouquet updater for a while now. I was also getting an error telling me the feeds were down eveytime I tried to update my VIX. I've been very busy for most of this year and only just realised that I need to change to OpenVIX Apollo.

I understand that this will require me to reflash the box and I have a few questions...

1) Will I lose all my recorded shows? I have half a terrabyte of recorded shows in different folders. I also have a folder with 200GB of films I use the Movie Browser to watch. If I flash a new operating system will I lose all those folders and all those shows? That's too many shows to move onto an external HDD.

2) Will I lose my softcams. I have mgcamd 1.5a set up and I dont remember how I set it up the first time. I have the unique numbers I need but dont remember how to do any of the rest. Will I lose all of that?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

No. Flashing an image only effects the internal flash, not any HDDs.

Not sure what numbers you mean?

but, yes. You would lose softcams & settings as they are held in internal flash.
Softcams can be installed from the feeds now so not a big issue.
Back up your softcam config files & anything else you want to keep by FTP & all can easily be restored afterwards.
Look in /usr/keys/ for your mgcamd config files.

Thanks that's great news. I was worried I might have to reformat the HDD.

Are those the only files Ineed to save and then download mgcamd 1.5a from the feeds?

Probably. But all depends on your current set-up & plugin usage.
You might want to do a channel list back-up? If so, search for DreamBoxEdit on the forums & use that.
As a newly flashed image will contain a current satellites.xml, you might be better off using a new channel list though.

I've always used AutoBouquets E2 by AndyBlac and Skaman but it stopped working months ago. Does it work on Apollo? The same with CrossEPG downloader.

I'd update so, no issues with ABM & CrossEPG that I know of on current images.

That's great and one last question (sorry if this is annoying), I use Movie Browser plugin for watching films, is there a better one and is there one for TV Shows?

Do you know where I can find the last stable version of OpenVIX 3.0?

Apollo keeps crashing, the SD image is very poor quality and pixelly. Also my channels clear and scramble randomly without me changing any of the settings. RIght now I dont have the time to look into any of this and fix it properly.

I have a backup of my OpenVIX 3.0 setup but it's not flashing the box. So I want to flash the box with 3.0 then use the backup to restore my previous settings. I can live without ABM and EPG for now but not with channels which dont clear when I want to watch them.

I cant find any OpenVIX 3,0 backups for the Solo2 in the archives. DO you know where i can get the last stable version?

we deleted all of our OpenViX 3.0 archives so we cant really guarantee any version you "find" else where would be clean and not tampered with. so it's going to be a google job I'm afraid.

I'm putting the vuplus folder on a FAT32 USB drive and booting up the box but it doesn't automatically flash. It just boots into Apollo. This is the same USB I used to flash 3.0 previously and Apollo too. Is there another way to flash it or any way to force the box to flash?

Copy it to /media/hdd/imagebackups/ & couch flash it using the remote & image manager.

You do realise you'll be without plugin feeds again though?
Much better off staying on a currently supported image & uploading your crash logs.

I'll do that when I have time to play around with it. But for now I'll stick to what works

Apollo build 024 works fine, no crashes, cams all fine here.
Obviously your choice to use an old & unsupported build, I just prefer to stay up to date.
