    so you can connect to ftp when you put no password in?

    as Punisher said, logon type should be "normal" or "ask for password".

    i set the logon type to Normal, and i got this
    Response: 220 Welcome to the OpenPLi FTP service.
    Command: USER root
    Response: 331 Please specify the password.
    Command: PASS
    Response: 530 Login incorrect.
    Error: Critical error
    Error: Could not connect to server

    your going to have to try and change your password and see if that works. on ur solo go in menu/plugin/ Green Button (download plugins) and under "Extensions" download the Passwordchanger plugin and install it. then go back into the plugins menu and change the password to something else and then try that in ur ftp

    What should I use as the old password?

    Try with it blank and then ur new password if that doesnt work try it with dreambox and also password

    1. Use a cross over cable.
    2. from the cmd prompt on your pc type telnet ip of the box then enter (If you are using windows 7 you will have enable telnet google it).
    3. login root

    See how you go with that

    in that case I cant do it tonight,
    do I need 2 cross over cables?
    Yes i use win7, and I have enabled telnet.

    NO you only need a cross over cable if going direct from the pc to the box if going through the router straight through cables

    Straight through cable from pc to router straight through cable from router to the box
