    Help with best windows for under 1gb ram

    I have old vista(my five year old girl's laptop) with about 800mg ram -and it's running ever slow .Can anyone give advice ,please:wheather I should go for win 7 or xp.Which would be quicker?

    What processor?

    Most likely, XP will run better tho...

    just like poofface, id recommend XP as it will probably run faster than windows 7 would on an older laptop

    wouldnt use linux as a starting op system XP will be fine but no higher

    Win7 will run fine if you disable stuff like prefetching and other non necessary services (theres a lot you can disable).

    for that setup i wouldnt go higher than winXP

    or even winXP MCE

    lol you do realize that prior to today the last post in this thread was 7 months ago ?

    any hoo to put my two pennies worth in the pot.

    either go with good old rock solid windows XP as that OS still has quite a bit going for it even though it's getting on a bit now, or try ubuntu yes it's linux but it's dead easy to pickup and go with even for a windows user like me.

    as pheonix says

    i brought a netbook designed for and installed with win7 starter

    it was as slow as my wife when i ask her to do something

    i installed ubuntu and it just sped up everything worked really well

    as i gave it to my wife she didnt like ubuntu so i installed XP on it and the speed is brill must better than the sluggish win7 starter it was supposedly designed for
