No idea I'm afraid, I just found a reference to it, but no more than that.

    Is it a plugin?

In flashonline stick whatever image you want in hdd/images
Then hit local button (blue??) and then you should get to a screen where you can inspect your local hhd and choose an image.
Select the image and then it should be able to flash(green button??).

..but its a great learning curve and shows that you can flash to different images, try them and (usually) get back.
Now next time you change receivers, buy a multiboot receiver which allows you keep several images in the emmc and you can (usually - apart from ViX) jump between them e.g most OEA images and OpenPli (HD51)

Never heard about flashonline, is it a plugin in the feeds or just a website through which different images can be flashed on a receiver?

Its a component of the SoftwareManager plugin in openATV and its offspring and does the same as the Online flashing part of ViX ImageManager.
There are other SoftwareManager components that do similar things to the ViX plugin

USB never used, couch flash between images. Simple solution if you have couch flashing available on the images you change to.

I tried a DT101 G2 8gb, a dataTraveler 8gb, a sandisk 16gb, one of those has always worked for me in the past

Like ccs, I never use usb unless I am forced to e.g. the latest Giga4K update to the drivers and boot firmware.
I see too many issues on this forum where people use usb and cannot get to flash, or they have used the software update and had issues - when all they had to do was couch flash and restore backup settings

I have usb flashed a variety of vu duos, solos, a solo2, a duo2 and a solo4k. I have never had an issue flashing and have used half a dozen usb sticks either 16gb or 32gb in size. Yes couch flashing is my preferred method but....
