    Google Home or ALexa?

    Hello All,

DO any of these devices work with our beloved E2 boxes? I have an ET8500 which I would love it to work with.

Also, does anyone have experience of these devices and which one to plump for? Experiences etc? I have read a lot of the reviews but would like to know your views.

In the words of one wise person - Merry Xmas you filthy animals!

    FP.

    Hi,
at the moment Alexa is still ahead of Google Home but this can change. Directly work with E2 afaik only Alexa but you have to use certain boxes and/or images. When you have a Logitech Harmony with hub you already can control quite a lot with Alexa.

    ciao

I have my ET8500 set up with Logitech Harmony and Alexa and it is fully working. (Only got round to setting it up last week but can change channels with Alexa). My ET8500 and also my Formuler F1 boxes are both listed in Harmony.

You Just need the harmony hub and your phone, or the Elite or Ultimate remote and hub

I don't know what to choose. All my friends use google chorme but lots of people say that Alexa is as good as chrome. I need to test both of them first to be able to say about it though I've been using chrome while looking for some educational materials and I really like this one.

    Hi,
Chrome(cast) is something completely different then Alexa. I think you mean Google (Nest) Home.

I have two ChromeCast Audio devices, two Google Home Minis at home and one at my office. I also have one Amazon Echo Dot at home. So far I have really only used them for:

    1.Playing Games
I play Jeopardy! on the Echo five days a week. I am not aware of anything similar on Google
    Advantage: Amazon

    2.Listening to Music
    (a)Both play Spotify fairly seamlessly
(b)The Echo won’t play my Google Play Music, but the Mini will play Amazon Music
(c)Both can connect to Bluetooth speakers
(d)The Echo has a 3.5mm audio output, the Mini does not.
(e)All the ChromeCast and Home devices can be grouped to play the same audio, which allows me to listen throughout the house. Since I only have one Echo I do not know if they have the same feature.
    Advantage: Google

    3.Controlling our Nest thermostat.
Both seem to handle this equally well
    Advantage: NONE

    4.Answering questions
More often than not Alexa will tell us she doesn’t know the answer. Then we’ll ask Google and get something half the time. Both are works in progress.
    Advantage: Google

    5.Voice recognition
Google is much easier to set up to recognize the different voices in our household. This allows my wife and daughter to use their own Spotify and Google Play accounts by voice whereas everyone is tied into my Amazon account on the Echo.
    Advantage: Google

I admit I was biased toward Google going into this and I only have the one Echo device to compare. So take my recommendation with a grain of salt.
    Overall Advantage: Google
