    box updates

hi folks, always used openvix as a felt it was the best experience that i've tried, but recently boxes are only getting 2 years of updates and then your having to fork out money for new boxes to get support, I have the miraclebox mini, so basically a need to either buy a new box or jump ship to another image.

fair enough, i understand that you don't want to provide updates for all the boxes forever, but it's just over two years old, and to be honest more and more boxes are getting discontinued now, with 11 boxes not getting the 5.0 update. is this all based on hardware support or is it plainly that you don't support boxes over two years old?

can you not give people a fix for the audio on the older firmware, so that they can still use them , without having to jump ship to openatv etc.

    kind regards

Which 11 boxes didn’t get the 5.0 update? I think you will find that to be incorrect, but please do list the receivers.

Support for 11 boxes did stop in 5.0 (last February), but none have been lost in 5.1

No-one is paying the team to support old boxes (and there is no obligation to do so either - the VIX team dont sell boxes). There is a cost involved in maintaining all the images and also some receivers just are not able to run the latest images. As mentioned elsewhere you can build the image yourself if you really need it. In any case a receiver wont stop working because of lack of updates.

look am not in here to flame people, yea all that you have said, I accept, I know and acknowledge that there is alot of time and effort put in to this, but a think your statement is wrong fundamentally, world of satellite and vix team is a partnership, they both work together to sell and supply there own software, hence why every box sold has the option of getting openvix, thats why a bought it from there after all.

nor am a looking from them to reverse there decision not to support boxes for whatever there reason, but they could offer fixes on the latest image for each receiver, to fix the audio problems people have been facing, it all depends on if they want to help the community, I'm sure I will not be the only one that needs it.

    thanks

I dont think they are a partnership. WOS are the main sponsor of the forum but they work independently of one another. One is commercial and the other a group of coders/hobbyists/testers etc. Its not up to WOS which receivers are supported by Openvix. And no-one pays the Openvix team to continue supporting any receiver bar some donations etc. Sometimes the lack of a working receiver may result in a model being dropped - I would imagine most of the receivers used for developing/testing belong to individual team members. Are you expecting them to fork out just to keep supporting you? Of course its not nice to see something fall by the wayside but at the end of the day it is up to the manufacturer to issue bug fixes for their drivers. If they haven't done it after 2 years then its highly unlikely to happen.
