Hi guys
I'm thinking of upgrading my hardrive. My cousin is willing to sell me his one but it's a purple wd hardrive. I can't seem to find any information whether the purple ones are compatible with enigma receivers?
Is it a bad idea to use a purple one or does it not make a difference?
Thanks
The purple ones are usually for continuously recording CCTV. Can't see why it wouldn't be okay for recording TV though.
EDIT:
Just found this so probably not a good idea:
These 5400 RPM disks are primarily designed for use with NVRs (network video recorders) and DVR (digital video recorders). The firmware in them is optimised for constant ATA streaming of contiguous data. It is not really designed for the kind of random reads and writes as you would expect in an administrative office. Moreover, the error correction algorithms used in these disks are tuned for speed with data integrity taking a back seat. It is really not surprising then that just after a couple of months usage – the data on the volume became inaccessible.

Oh.
Hmm.
So not a good idea to put into a Linux receiver then?
That's a shame. I couldn't see any other use for it other than my receiver
