Kodi Issued Major Security Flaw Alert

Kodi has just announced that there is a serious vulnerability related to subtitles. They have issued a patch/upgrade via Indigo for versions of Kodi v17 Krypton, or you could perform a fresh download of 17.2. They seem to be saying older versions, which would include those on Android boxes that can't be upgraded beyond Lollipop and hence incompatible with Krypton, are out of luck...

Perhaps turning off auto subtitle download, and avoid using subtitles, is a temporary solution for those stuck with legacy versions.
