For the same reason you would buy a 1080p receiver Why would you buy a 1080p receiver when broadcasts are 1080i?

Because Technology moves on, there may be not a lot of 4K broadcasts at the moment but there are 4K media files available, the box's also supports newer codecs such as H265 and some support or will support HDR as well as innovations such as FBC.

Also you say there are only test channels on satellite, this is wrong, some European countries have fully functioning broadcasting 4K channels, i watched 9 Euro 2016 matches in 4K on Turkish TV, don't just presume that the world ends at the end of our little Island.

VU+ Uno 4K having FBC C-tuner.If more money to spend then VU+ Ultimo 4K with FBC C-tuner.
Both of those means 8 cabletuners to use.

It wasnt me that said there are only test channels, i was taking the information from a previous poster and I know there is much more out there than our little island.

My TV plays 4kfiles direct from my NAS - but can understand why you owuld have a 4k reciever to play the files.

Fair point. I assumed ((maybe wrongly)) that most 4k TVs are DLNA compliant and play 4k files from a NAS or USB etc... Therefore no reciever needed.

What about PVR features? Watching and recording different channels, timeshift, autotimers etc.... TV's have none of those.

    What a load of nonsense!

Satellite TV market is global, not just the Uk. You think a manufacturer is going to drop their prices because you cant use your official sky card in a 3rd party receiver?
