Splitting VM signal - does it weaken strength

    Hi all,

Just curious if you split the virgin media feed coming in to the house will these weaken the signal strength? I know it sounds like an obvious question but just wondering as the virgin box itself is cable of recording and watching another channel yet it only uses one feed. I take it their box splits the signal internally? I guess my question is if i split it manually will I get any picture break up?

    Thanks

Probably, you would have to be on the top end of Virgins permitted power levels to split it yourself and have no problems with any channels.

That's what is confusing me - how come if the tivo box or whatever it is they use these days splits the signal it is fine, yet if i split it manually it would be an issue?

Do you get free view channels with cable.

Ie if I hooked up to a cable line without a subscription to Virgin. Can I watch freewiew channels?

Yes as long as you have a dvb/c tuner in your receiver and then set up to scan with correct net id - you can get freeview channels

    Cheers.

My dad has an old cable feed. He Was looking to get a box. I was gonna get him a Sat box and dish for freeview. But might not have to if the cable feed is active. So I just enter the net ID and run autobouquets and it should give me the freeview channels

I have a OS mega I could try on his feed and see if it works.

    Cheers

Yeah that is correct I'd go with cable if you can. Yeah you can get a list of the NET IDs online for whichever area you are in. ABM has an option to scan for Virgin UK channels to create the bouqet.

There is about 14 full time free to air channels on cable all in SD not worth the effort use the tuner in T2 mode connect the Ariel and get and get over a 100 channels a few are in HD
All PM,s asking about c/s on cable will be ignored and reported to forum staff!
