Hi. I would recommend the vu solo2. Easy and powerful. However if your wanting to use vix firmware when a fresh install is put on there is a bit of setting up to do. When you say automatically updates it's self what do you mean?

No e2 images updates itself. But it is easy to update via Software Update.

You can via a script and run it in a crontimer but would be risky if a bad update came through and you didn't have time to reflash. So a manual software update is best.

    Hello

The setting up is the same, whichever receiver you get.

IMO, it is not a good idea to buy a cheap receiver with the intention of trying it out first and then upgrading. You would be better off buying the receiver that meets your needs and budget and is relatively new.

    What is your budget.

The Solo2 takes a 2.5 inch sata drive like almost all recent receivers. Very few new receivers accept a 3.5 inch drive

All receivers can use external HDDs, best to use powered ones instead of USB ones. Rip a HDD out a of a Sky+ HD receiver and put it in a £12 caddy.
