Advice needed on recording from an Enigma 2 receiver and converting it to MP3, please

I want to record some radio programmes on a VU+ Duo, or Mut@nt HD 2400, and listen to them on my car stereo. I've transferred one programme onto a USB flash drive, but it wouldn't play in the car. Although it's radio programmes I'm recording, I think it's video that's being recorded. I tried to convert the show using Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio, but that wouldn't work either.

Are there any programmes that would convert the recordings to MP3, so I can listen to the programmes while I'm driving?

Your best bet might be 'Free Video to MP3 Converter' from DVDVideoSoft (a quick Google search will find it). It's free and should do what you need. I've never needed to use it so I can't vouch for it.

What may help your search for a suitable converter is that radio programmes on satellite are in MP2 format so you may need to google MP2 to MP3 converter. I can't vouch for any particular one as I mostly use linux. Just be aware that a lot of "free" converters available for download (particularly on Microsoft Windows) are laden with adware, so check carefully before installing.

The radio programmes may be transmitted as MP2 but when they are recorded it is done as a video file with a .TS format.

The .TS is just a container, the actual audio is compressed as MP2. Any of these converters would need to be able to read a .TS and extract (demultiplex) the audio stream, and then re-encode as MP3 and write a new file. The OP's car stereo wouldn't handle either the .TS file or the extracted MP2 audio unless it is converted to MP3 or maybe WAV format.

I was going to suggest ffmpeg &| lame on the box itself, but it turns out that the ffmpeg build has removed most output formats (all expect mpeg1video?) so can't do anything.

I have something called "Format Factory" (MS Windows - although I seem to have it running via wine on Linux) that will do it (IIRC it uses the ffmpeg libraries). Version 3.9.5.0 adds VBR MP3...
