New HDMI 2.1 standard said to improve HDR support

Flatpanelshd quote from a Philips Whitepaper that the next version of the popular interface standard will be HDMI 2.1 that adds support for “dynamic metadata” for HDR.

The worrying bottom line says "It is not clear when we can expect HDMI 2.1 to debut in products and whether it will be possible to firmware upgrade current 2.0a ports in HDR-enabled TVs." which indicates how fluid specs are for current 4K/HDR TV's.... and 4K input devices.

i'm not sure whether to buy a 4K set or just an hd tv. for regular tv application 4k seems to be overkill.
maybe hd oled is the better choice?

The LG 4K oled's are brilliant but then I look at the price, standards still in flux and lack of content and think how can I justify replacing my Panny plasma,s ... if I win todays Euro lottery perhaps but otherwise......

Yep true .... there is always infighting in this industry, but this time it has been worse, especially with LG having the only good oled,s at the moment, something Samsung finds difficult .... I have read that they tried biaising the hdr standards so LG couldn,t use the new logo with their oleds ( didn,t have solar flare brilliance capability )

Only one slight gripe is not all the onDemand plugins are available. Would love ITV Hub and All 4, then it would be perfik!

Actually 2.0a is only a software update on 2.0; every device that has 2.0 should be able to get 2.0a as well (if the manufacturer provides the update; don't hold your breath).
