Whats the difference between DVB-S2 and DVB C/T tuners. Which should I order?

I'm looking to buy a multi-tuner STB and I havent a clue what the different tuner options refer to and which I should select.

Firstly there is DVB-S/S2 and DVB s/2 and Single Tuner options. (I guess DVB S/S2 is a combination of DVB S/2 and a Single Tuner).

DVB-C/T and DVB-C/T/T2 a nd Hybrid DVB-C/T/T2. What on earth are these ones about?

DVB-S/S2 is for satellite TV, this is a single tuner unless stated other wise.

DVB-C/T is a Cable and terrestrial tuner combined into one also known as a combo tuner, again it's a single tuner unless stated otherwise and you can only watch cable or terrestrial not both at the same time.

Just so I can ensure my understanding is correct can you confirm the following are correct:-

    (1) a DVB-S/S2 would allow me to watch 1 channel

(2)a Twin DVB-S/S2 would allow me to watch two channels or watch one and record on the other

    (3) a Twin DVB-S/S2 + a Single Tuner allows me to watch/record three channels and

    (4) 2x Twin DVB-S/S2 allows me to watch/record four channels

yes thats about rite, although even with a single tuner you can theoretically watch one channel and record upto another 6 providing that all of them are on the same transponder. The general rule of thumb is the more tuners the more options when it comes to watching and recording channels.

    Many, many thanks.

One last thing while we are on the subject of tuners. Whats the difference between a box with ' fixed tuners' and a box with 'separate plug-able tuners' ?

Fixed tuners are as the title says, fixed onto the board whereas plug n play tuners you can attach to the board, a bit like adding a graphics card to a pc desktop etc.

Sorry, one last question. If I get the DVB-C/T, is that like having Freeview in the box, and to which I would connect a terrestial TV aerial (I don't have Cable).

Assuming this is the case, i'm weighing up the advantages in my own mind of having Freeview in addition to Satellite - cant think of any right now!

DVB-C/T/T2 tuners will give Freeview HD, standard DVB-C/T tuners will not get you Freeview HD channels.

It all depends on if the drivers are available in the firmware you are using on your receiver.
