my box always seems to switch itself on every morning and goes to the nat geo channel
I have all timers etc switched off
any ideas
Any crash logs generted in /home/root/logs/
Scheduled ABM or EPG updates?
Do you have a swap file setup? A swap file is essential for older receivers, especially Vu+ Duo and Vu+ Solo.

do you have your ports forwarded through your router?
I had a similar problem a while back,found out it was a signal from my isp that caused it,they were using traffic shaping software and used to do a reboot every night,used to get up in a morning to find my previously on standby server active.It stopped when I complained to them. Dunc.
