Brits pay most for premium TV

UK viewers are paying significantly more for premium pay-TV packages than consumers in Europe and the US, according to Ofcom.

The regulator found that British consumers pay £66 (€77) a month for the “best offer” premium pay-TV subscription – defined as including the “best package of top league football” as well as films and HD TV – more than twice that paid by consumers in the cheapest nation surveyed, Germany (£27).

The UK fared the worst in a six-nation comparison, with Spain ranked second (£49), followed by the US (£47) then Italy (£40) and France (£35), according to Ofcom.

Ofcom notes that Brits do get a good deal on basic pay-TV packages, at £16 a month second only to Italians.

Ofcom also found that UK consumers get much cheaper deals than their Continental and US counterparts when it comes to mobile and broadband services. The highly competitive UK mobile market, with a large number of virtual operators such as Tesco, has meant huge savings for British consumers.

The UK also ranked cheapest for broadband, third for landline rental and in an overall comparison of all communications services topped the survey.

I hope they also compared the contents of the packages and not only the prices. If you compare e.g. the Dutch and the UK premium package you'll notice that the UK package offers many more services then their Dutch counterparts. We can only be jealous on that!

How about we pay (fine) but why do we have to watch adverts every few minutes ? WE ARE PAYING FOR THE TV so in my view they should not be getting advertising revenue as well. Talk about have your cake and eat it !!!

Not sure where they get the 27 pounds
Sky Germany basic plus films €34.90 (24.90 1st 6 months)
    basic plus sport €46.90 ( 29.90....)
basic plus sport plus films (everything) €56.90 ( 39.90 ....)
that include HD channels which we pay for and you have all the apps.

    Hi
Totally agree with you there apart from the movie and sport we have to still suffer the adverts on subscription channels when really they shouldnt show them really, plus now days what with catchup tv etc seems to be more of the same programming going round and round and repeated on other channels. May look like we have loads of choice but when you start to take apart the schedules your find a high percentage are re-runs of other channels past programming.
