Windows RT 8.1 update pulled from Microsoft's Windows Store following errors

Microsoft removed the Windows RT 8.1 update from its Windows Store earlier this morning, as they investigated a 'situation.'
Read the post: "Windows RT 8.1. Microsoft is investigating a situation affecting a limited number of users updating their Windows RT devices to Windows RT 8.1. As a result, we have temporarily removed the Windows RT 8.1 update from the Windows Store. We are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience. We will provide updates as they become available."

It remains unknown what the real "situation" is that is keeping Microsoft from returning the download, but it follows reports that Windows 8.1 users were also having issues updating from Windows 8.

Reportedly, although unconfirmed by Microsoft, the update has been failing due to a boot configuration error.

Been using Win8 for over a year now and I have to say it's the best Win OS by far for me. I would compare it to WinXP at it's release. It was by far superior to what MSFT has release earlier but took some tweaking to get right (remember XP did not originally ship with an internet browser - unless you paid extra for the plus pack)

At first I disliked it but that was partly due to me using a non touch screen laptop.
Once I got my upgraded laptop it is close to perfect for me.

The real pity about Win 8 is that most who try it will still be on non-touch devices.

It takes some getting used to as you have to go about learning new muscle memory (no start button - and the start tile in 8.1 is not really the same thing) before you are really proficient and quick with it. However if you preserve you will be far more productive. At least I know I am
(even when comparing to most people's favourite Win7).

I guess for honesty I should declare that I work for MSFT, However my views would be the same even if I didn't.
I must admit that had I not worked where I do. I'm not sure if I would have persevered with it as a daily driver as the learning new muscle memory is a little painful but like I said above I'm more productive.

I treat Win 8 and 8.1 as a transitional OS from "desktop classic" to "touch modern" so in my view some things are a little mishmash like the undelying power user controls.

However learning the new Win8 Shortcuts will make life much easier . (names below are not official names)
    Win+X = admin menu
    Win+I = Settings menu
Win+D = take me to desktop
Win = Modern to desktop and vce versa
    Win+W = search
    Win+Q = Apps

There are loads more but these are the main ones I use.

I've no idea why it was pulled, will be interesting to see the reason.

I too didn't like win8 when I first tried it. And went striaght back to win7.

Then, I got a laptop with only win8, not pro version, so couldn't downgrade to win 7 legally... So, I decided to stick at it and persevere. After a few days, I was OK with it. But, everything is done in desktop mode, not the new silly tiles mode. My laptop wasn't a touch screen, and neither will any of the work computers for a few years. So, there's no way we'll be switching over at work straight away, and will likely be sticking with win 7 for quite a while...

I can't understand why MS will think all schools and businesses will be switching over to Win8. Spoke to a colleague at the LEA who supports all the schools who buy in to them, and he was saying he is dreading any move over within the schools to Win 8!

There's no need to use the silly tile's on Windows 8.

    True!

The update failed with a meaningless error code when I ran it. I am not convinced that it actually does much good, so I am waiting until I get a faster broadband connection.
