Tablet fans to your stations: Google'sfollow-up to the much-beloved Nexus 7 will be on sale in the UK within weeks.

The new Nexus 7 will go on sale in the UK on 28 August, Asus -- which builds the 7-inch slate -- has confirmed.

The Nexus 7 is expected to be on sale from Google's online Play Store as well as other retailers. The tablet comes in two sizes, with the 16GB model set to cost £199, and the 32GB version setting you back £239.

That's not quite as cheap as the first Nexus 7, which has started at a bargain-basement £159 since it first appeared last year. The new model went on sale in the US on 30 July.

The nouveau Nexus is a moderately beefed-up version of the old Nexus 7. It has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a higher 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution screen.

It's also running Android 4.3, which is the very latest version of Google's mobile operating system, although improvements over previous versions are pretty minor. As it's a Nexus device, it'll be first in line for fresh Android versions when they pop out of Google's oven.

Last year's Nexus 7 impressed us with its low price and impressive specifications. This time around the competition is much fiercer, and will likely include a new version of Apple's iPad mini.

Will you splash out on the new Nexus 7, or is there another tablet you'd rather own?
