    Vu+ Duo 2 vs Vu+ Ultimo

I'm looking to buy a new Vu+ receiver, so wanted to know what's the difference between the two receivers? (Vu+ Duo 2 and Vu+ Ultimo)

How many tuners do both receiver have and how many more can you install?

    Cheers

Both can support upto 4 internall tuners but there is also a well known issue with all Vu+ receivers ( vtuner ) that prevents you from using more than 4, so if you have 4 internal tuners you can't use for example a USB tuner as well.

Back on topic now here is a quick run down of the spec difference between the two and more.

The Solo2/DUO2 are indeed much faster then the old generation.
    Do you need that? No.
You you experience that? Sometimes. In fact only when CPU-intensive tasks are being carried out (such as multiple autotimers polling).
    Is that important? No.

Personally I find the Solo2 a great piece of equipment. If you only need two tuners I would go for that box, especially as it is rather cheap. And of course you can ad USB-tuners.

Compared to the Solo2 I find the DUO2 to be far overpriced. Of course, you have some more tuner options. But the LCD is just a gimmick (I really don't use it) and the G-VFD is very small (1/4 of the G-VFD of the Ultimo) and has a very bad quality.

All in all: in spite of having all those boxes, the Ultimo is and remains my main box.
If you have an Ultimo, I really won't spend any money on an 'upgrade'.
If you have a smaller box then the Ultimo, and are considering an upgrade, the Solo2 would be my first choice.

Ultimo has 3 tuner slots while the Duo2 only has 2. That means there are going to be combinations possible on the Ultimo that aren't possible on the Duo2, for example, 3 internal DVB-S2 (using twin card in slot C) and 1 DVB-T. With Duo2 if you use an internal DVB-T tuner you are limited to a maximum of 2 internal DVB-S2 tuners.

In fct the DUO2 would have been a great box if for the same price:
1- a 3rd tunerslot would have been present, and
2- the G-VFD would have been the same as the one of the Ultimo.

Only then the name should have been Ultimo2 ......

In my opinion one big LCD screen would be enough Also new remote does not work as good as white one with Duo. I also dislike new button layout. Completely unnecessary change if you ask me ...

Thanks for your advice would you recommend the Ultimo then above others, as I was thinking of getting a duo2. Do like the look of the Ultimo with 3 tuners options. Hope you can advise.

If you are buying new receiver than buy something which has last generation chipset. I wouldnt buy Ultimo personally.

It really depends on your needs. The Ultimo has a recent chipset and is a very capable box. And it's the only box with a decent display.

    Re: Vu+ Duo 2 vs Vu+ Ultimo

Personally I like the new layout of the duo 2 remote. Do not see any problem with it at all. To be honest it looks more stylish than the solo 2 remote and is every bit as functional
