    Tesco to launch Clubcard TV

UK supermarket chain Tesco is to launch a subscription-free online movie and TV service exclusively for the use of its Clubcard loyalty card customers.
Clubcard TV – currently in beta trial with Tesco employees – will offer “thousands of movies and TV shows” to cardholders registering their card number and postcode with the service.

Clubcard TV is being provided by Tesco Clubcard and the supermarket’s blinkbox online digital entertainment subsidiary, with Tesco claiming it is the first retailer in the UK to reward its customers with their own online movie and TV service. The pair announced December 2011 a new service where customers who purchase a DVD or Blu-ray would also own the movie online. The service was exclusive to customers enrolled in the Clubcard loyalty scheme.

Tesco is a member of the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) consortium, which includes film studios, retailers, consumer electronics manufacturers, cable companies, ISPs, network-hosting vendors, and other Internet systems and security vendors. DECE is promoting the UltraViolet digital rights authentication and cloud-based licensing system that allows consumers of digital home entertainment content to stream and download purchased content to multiple platforms and devices.
