    Production is shut down

The DM8000 HD PVR translated the claim into action to unite digital consumer electronics into one device. It is all the more regrettable, then, that Dream won't be able to carry on the production of this groundbreaking multimedia center.
This is because several electronic components are no longer available. Dream Multimedia won't develop a successor of the DM8000. Nevertheless, Dream looks ahead to the future. At this year's Anga Cable show Dream lifted the veil and let visitors take a brief look at the Goliath project. This innovative software and hardware platform will outshine everything Dream has developed so far.

Brief look at Goliath what a joke that was! Their interpritation of a brief look at Goliath was a silly comic clip screened on a TV!

Hardly a surprise when you consider that the cost of one was almost a grand. It was never going to be able to compete with the likes of the Duo or Xtrend receivers, hell even the Vu Ultimo the flagship model of the Vu line is almost half the price of the DM8000 which must be around 3 years old now it self.

DM are screwed - Alienated themselves from the rest of the industry, excessive pricing policies, clones everywhere. taking people to court over the use of Enigma when what they should have done was licence it properly, no new ideas for over 3 years and now a 'brief look' at something in conception which they should have at least had a prototype of at ANGA

I can't believe that to be the reason. It's quite normal that during a production-period several components are no longer available; especially if the production lasts over 3 years. The normal way ahead is that an alternative component will be used; this leads to minor H/W-revisions. See what happened to the DUO (don't know about the rest): apart from the very first modification (that was to add a RTC) all revisions are solely for that purpose. This brings minimal costs, while the specs of the device remain unchanged.

So the real reason is...... quite a different one.
