The Asus RT-N56U gets a lot of recommendation, I have the RT-N66U on my VM line and have no issues.

Wireless drops out frequently plus poor speeds fine if connected via lan cable

Call Virgin mate and mention problems your having & they'll come and fit you a wireless n router for free, a d-link one. It's nothing special, can be bought for around £30 but does the job perfectly well. Very good signal and speed everywhere in my house now. I was also given a netgear wireless n usb adapter for my laptop. I struggled also for the first 6 months or so with the very poor wifi range on the wireless built into the superhub. Virgin know about the problem.
