Hi all. looks a great site. Im looking to buy a new receiver (got Sky at present ) need help and guidance with the differerence between linux, enigma etc and other tuners, can i use my sky card in them ? Do i have to connect an ethernet ? are they easy to work generally i dont know too much about them. any help would be appreciated. ps: sorry if ive posted this in the wrong forum

As for your question:-

can i use my sky card in them ? - Yes

Do i have to connect an ethernet ? No but its good to for image updates and to download the EPG

are they easy to work - If you are comfortable around PC, can drag and drop, delete, create folders, than after some learning you will be alright.

Thanks for that stanman, i am familiar around use of pc its the linux system that daunts me. I am thinking about buying a Technomate TM 7102 HD !
Is the Dreambox a better machine all round ?

You don't need to know linux mate. I dont have a clue about it.

All the utilities that you need to get the box up and running are PC based (some MAC)

I don't know that particular box but I would still say go with a fullly open linux machine, you will appreciate its versatility.
