Seems to be the new bootloader not hooking up with the new firmware. 2.2 is working fine but 2.3 wont restart at all. Anyone got any ideas?

Please be careful when reverting bootloader.

Try a different USB stick formated FAT32. Re-download image. Install Teracopy on your PC to copy accross the image files to USB stick.

    Code:

Because killing the bootloader will brick your receiver.

Have you disconnecting all USB devices, HDD, satellite feeds, just leave the receiver connected to TV via hdmi. Leave everything else disconnected for now and try.

I left my new bootloader folder named et9000 and flashed as that, then named the new image folder et9x000 then flashed that and all is ok here, worked first time for me..

Yes I understand that, but I thought as long as the flashing process was completed in a proper manner then it was just the same as flashing to a newer bootloader e.g. the risks are the same.

I am going to have another go on Sunday.

    thanks again for the help.

Yes you have to the first time as the machine is looking for the et9000 folder. After the initial upgrade to the bootloader though the machine is then looking for a et9x00 folder.

updating a bootloader is quite safe if done correctly, it's when you downgrade it to a earlier version when you run the risk of things going very wrong, and if they do you can easily destroy the boot sector of the receiver rendering it worthless.

I had similar booting problems after upgrading the bootloader and flashing the 2.3 image, but I made a backup image of the freshly installed image right after updating the image online and scanning for channels, then flashed this new "fresh" backup image onto the box instead and that seemed to resolve the booting issue.

I don't know the reason for the booting problems, it's possible it was because I didn't turn the box off after flashing the bootloader, it simply booted into ViX 2.2.110, then I restarted the box and flashed the new ViX 2.3 GM build onto it. After the first restart of the new image (after software update and channel scan) the box was stuck in booting.

I have run in the similar issue in past.....couple of things to note...

IGNORE the splash screen...mine still shows 2.6.1 from an earlier update of the bootloader but I know its 3.x because I have ViX2.3 running smoothly...the bootloader does go through but the splash screen doesn't change.

My observation with different boxes is that some of the generic USB sticks don't work at all although they seem to work fine on a laptop/PC...they would lead to a strange behaviour where u can transfer the files to it, flash it successfully but then the box is stuck on starting....try a different branded USB stick

Make sure you don't have any other USB ports at the back in use at the rear.

Keep ONLY the bootloader on the USB stick...once the bootloader is uploaded, take out the USB and load onlly the image....let it flash fully...do a reboot and u should be good to go..

I had problems with my pen drive and flashing the bootloader. I formatted the Pendrive into FAT 32 and made it bootable - then as above, loaded only the bootloader on and it worked. Once the bootloader was installed, deleted it from the stick and put only the new image on.

I did also have a problem with my usb stick in the rear of the ET9000 but when that was removed it seemed to go flawlessy then as well.

    Good Luck!

    Image or bootloader??

Also make sure no other USB device or stick is connected when you flash.
