Apple Pulls Fake Jailbreak App From App Store [Updated]

It looks like someone managed to briefly sneak in an app in the App Store, which claimed to jailbreak all iOS devices including iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and worked with all iOS firmwares from iOS 3.0 to iOS 5. Apple has pulled the app.

The fake app was called "Jailbreak" and was available on the App Store for $9.99.

Folks at BlogsDNA were the first to spot the app and warned users about it:

iPhone app disguising as app to jailbreak, don't fall for this, its game and not tool to jailbreak

MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev team later confirmed when it was removed from the App Store:

Apple removed fake $10 "Jailbreak" that @Blogsdna mentioned (thanks to actual JBers I bet!)

It's quite strange that the app managed to sneak past Apple's stringent approval process even after the developer had named it "Jailbreak".

If you've been following us, then you probably know that there is currently no jailbreak available for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 running iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1. Please also note that the jailbreaks released by iPhone Dev team are available for free, so please do not get fooled into paying for a jailbreak tool and when in doubt, please feel free to shoot us a email.

Based on the Twitter timelines it looks like the fake jailbreak app was available for two days. We're quite sure that Apple will refund the money to users who ended up buying the app and suspend the developers license. Let's hope that they also review the approval process to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

    Update:

It looks like the fake jailbreak app was available in the App Store for more than two weeks. According to AppShopper, the fake jailbreak app was released on October 26th.

Here's the complete description of the app and the screenshot while it was available in the App Store:
