Because of the recent flooding, prices have shot up! Was talking to sicilian the other day about it. Beginning of Oct, I had a quote at work for a 2tb seagate at 49 quid ex vat. Monday this week, it'd shot up to 120 quid ex vat! Got it for 70 quid, as I'd bought loads in past from supplier, and that was goodwill gesture. But if u see one at that price, snap it up!

That's likely because they've sold out...

Here's a copy/paste of one of my suppliers, regarding the major manufacturers'

    Hitachi

Although Hitachi’s factories are not under water, access to them is very limited. Their main motor supplier is currently not producing any products in Thailand, but Hitachi is hoping to move production to the Philippines. They have limited finished goods, and are currently not shipping anything.

    Toshiba

Toshiba’s mobile HDD factory is under water and not producing at the moment, and we do not know when this will improve. Enterprise drives are not significantly affected; however, they are experiencing increased demand due to shortages from other HDD manufacturers.

    Western Digital

The Western Digital Thailand factory is under water and cannot produce drives. Their production estimate is currently at half their output capacity and this is unlikely to change for the foreseeable future. We have no visibility as to when we will receive any products at this stage.

    Seagate

Seagate’s factories and suppliers seem to be the least affected; however, their output has been reduced by 25% this quarter, and this is coupled with increased demand due to shortages from other HDD manufacturers. Currently we have no visibility on the availability of some products, but very limited availability on others.
Just looking at pcworld goes to show what I'm saying:

    Code:
    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/3-5-inch-hard-drives/715_7052_70056_xx_BA00003046-BV00252001/xx-criteria.html
Best advice I can give if you want to save some money, is to wait until about Jan/Feb next year... That's likely to be the time that the cost starts falling again...

as already said the stock of HDD's has been massively affected by the recent floods in Thailand, plus the prices were set to rise soon due to china hording all the precious metals needed in the manufacturing process.

so for some time to come the cheap HDD is a thing of the past.

They state 1-2 months ... but this could be a good bargain:

    Code:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-ST1500DL003-Barracuda-1-5TB-5900RPM/dp/B004C0UWZC/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1320836725&sr=1-2
Depends whether they actually 1-2 months, or just have it written down, and can dispatch quicker (a lot of times they do)...

Just to clarify, the one in my amazon link was sold by amazon directly, but state 1-2 months for delivery...

As for your situation, do a chargeback on your credit card (hope you used your credit card)...
