Want a smart phone that doesn't run Android, iOS or Windows Phone 7? No, it's okay -- you can admit it -- we won't judge you. Step up, oh ye of unconventional taste in smart phone operating systems, and have a gander at the Nokia 603.
It's one of a new wave of entry-level smart phones that use Symbian Belle -- a mobile OS that's aimed at first time smart phone users. It isn't short of high-end features, though. It's one of very few handsets in the UK that support near-field communication, or NFC.
NFC allows devices to communicate when held in close proximity. In the 603's case, it lets users share media or pair with accessories such as the Luna headset by physically tapping them together.
More exciting, if you're a gaming fan, is the fact the Nokia 603 includes a copy of Angry Birds Magic, which lets users unlock new levels by tapping their smart phones together. The game is location-aware, too -- allowing you to free up previously unseen features provided you're standing in a pre-determined 'magic' location.
The Nokia 603, which comes in black or white, packs a 3.5-inch, 360x640-pixel capacitive, scratch-resistant display. Inside, it gets 2GB of internal storage (upgradeable to 32GB via microSD memory card), Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, FM radio and a Web browser that supports Flash. There's also a 5-megapixel webcam that recognises your mates' faces and 720p video capture.
The Nokia 603 will be available closer to Christmas for less than £200.
