Internet providers to offer web porn block

BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media will offer the protection on laptops, PCs, smartphones and tablets, particularly aimed at families and parents.

Most web providers already offer functions for parents to filter adult websites, but this is being viewed as a more concerted effort to protect children from adult content.

The announcement comes as David Cameron prepares to meet representatives from the industry to discuss the sexualisation of children following an influential report earlier in the year.

The Prime Minister has also launched Parentport, a new website offering a platform for parents to flag up and complain about inappropriate content.

Mothers' Union head Reg Bailey delivered a report to Cameron in June, which warned of the "commercialisation and sexualisation" of children through TV, advertising and the internet.

Bailey recommended restricting access to raunchy music videos to older teenagers and late night slots on TV, along with covers for magazines on shelves that featured sexualised images.

Cameron backed the recommendations and said that he wanted to make it easier for parents to block "adult and age-restricted material" across all media.

In a letter to Bailey in June, the Prime Minister said: "As you say, we should not try to wrap children up in cotton wool or simply throw our hands up and accept the world as it is.

"Instead, we should look to put 'the brakes on an unthinking drift towards ever greater commercialisation and sexualisation'."

Media regulator Ofcom said that the launch of Parentport would make it easier for parents to complain about material in the media, online and in shops.

Ofcom chief executive Ed Richards said: "Seven UK media regulators have come together to develop a single website, with a single aim - to help protect children from inappropriate material.

"Each regulator shares this common purpose and is committed to helping parents make their views and concerns known."

Mothers' Union chief executive Reg Bailey said: "I am really encouraged that all the regulators have got together to produce ParentPort in a relatively short time since my review.

"This will be one place where parents can make their voices heard and tell businesses and broadcasters if they feel they have overstepped the line in what is appropriate for children.

"Parents told me that they often didn't know who to complain to or whether anything would be done as a result of their complaint. Parents are the best judges of what is acceptable for children so it's important we all take their views more seriously."

Children's minister Sarah Teather added: "I am looking forward to seeing what parents say on the ParentPort website. This will be an important tool in informing companies and regulators of what is acceptable for children. That way we can all work together to make our society a bit more family friendly."
All PM,s asking about c/s on cable will be ignored and reported to forum staff!

What's the latest news on the porn filter in England? I'm going there for some business july 10th and I want to know what's being blocked? Are we just talking about 'adult and porn' sites like alotporn, or other websites also?

What about poker and gambling pages?
    What else is being blocked?

Can it be turned off by yourself, like an app or something? I'll be staying in a hotel nearby canterbury and I don't really feel like asking one of the workers over there. My face would become red like a tomato
